Charter of the English Theater Group

Preamble

We, the members of the English Theater Group, in order to form a unique cultural space , establish English as our working language, ensure access to all students of the TU Dortmund University, the Dortmund Applied University and the citizenry of Dortmund, provide a productive working environment, promote international understanding and secure the freedom of art; do acknowledge and establish this charter. Whenever this document becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the members to alter or to abolish it.

§1 Aims

 

(1) The English Theater Group aims to provide broad access to English theater on campus.

(2) The English Theater Group supports international networking.

(3) The English Theater Group promotes cross-cultural understanding.

(4) The English Theater Group uses the experience of playing on a stage to negotiate all forms of discrimination.

 

§2 Membership

 

(1) Every student of the TU Dortmund University and the Dortmund Applied University as well as any person living in or close to Dortmund can join the English Theater Group.

 

(2) Only after involvment in a production with a live audience is member considered a full member. Until then the person holds an associated membership.

 

(3) Only full members have a vote in the general assembly.

 

§3 The general assembly

 

(1) The general assembly is the highest institution of the English Theater Group. It elects the board and decides on the budged that is brought to the student parliament.

(2) Each full member has one and only one vote in the generel assembly

(3) The votes can be determined by Yeas and Nays unless a member requests a secret election.

(4) If all board members are running unopposed, a cullimative election is possible.

(5) The general assembly needs to caucus at least once a year.

(6) If there was no General Assembly prior to three months of the Winter Semester, a yearly meeting in the beginning of the Winter semester is called, but no later than four weeks after the winter semester begins. In this assembly the Board must be elected to give the new board agency over the next years budget planning.

 

§4 The Board

 

(1) The English Theater Group is managed by a board consisting of

  1. a dramatic director
  2. an intendant
  3. a treasurer
  4. a technical director
  5. an creative director

(2) Each chairperson of the board has an equal vote.

 

(3) Chairpersons serve on the board for a year or retire, in which case an interim board member can be appointed. In case that more than three members of the board need to be replaced or are interim members, a general assembly needs to be called in within two weeks.

 

(4) Anything else can be regulated by internal procedural rules.

 

§5 Duties of the Board

 

(1) The board represents the English Theater Group to the general public as well as to the college.

(2) The general duties of the individual board members may overlap however there are specific tasks assigned to each member.

  1. The dramatic director heads the actors and is in charge of their professional development.
  2. The intendant prepares plays and conducts research in future stagings.
  3. The treasurer heads the non-staging staff, oversees the monetary flows of the group and prepares the yearly budget.
  4. The technical director heads the technical staff and oversees the technical equipment.
  5. The artistic director heads the stage designers, costume designers and make-up artists and oversees the non-technical equipment.
